Privacy Policy
Last updated: 29 July 2026
Oota helps you decide what's for dinner — without asking who you are. Here's exactly what that means for your privacy, in plain language.
- No account required
- No ads
- No location collection
- Anonymous by design
- Delete your data anytime
1. Introduction
Oota is a meal-decision app for iPhone and Android. It suggests what to cook and helps you keep a grocery list. This policy covers the Oota mobile app and explains what information it uses, why, and the choices you have.
2. Information We Collect
You never sign up or log in. The first time you open Oota, it creates a private, anonymous account for you automatically — so your information can sync back to your device without ever identifying you.
The information Oota keeps is mainly what you put into it:
- Your meals, meal plans, and meal history
- Your grocery list
- Your preferences and reminder settings
So reminders arrive at the right moment, the app also uses your device’s date, time, and time zone.
Oota does not collect your name, email address, phone number, or location, and it never accesses your contacts, photos, calendar, or microphone. We don’t use advertising trackers, and we never sell your information.
Your meals and groceries are stored on our secure servers, linked only to your anonymous account, so they’re there when you come back.
3. How We Use Information
We use what you provide to make the app work and improve your suggestions: remembering your meals and groceries, recommending what to cook, and showing tonight’s dinner on your home-screen widget. Widgets and voice shortcuts read only a copy that’s already on your device.
To keep the app stable, our released apps use Firebase Crashlytics to report crashes and errors so we can fix them. Crash reports include technical details such as your device model and app version — never your passwords or contact details.
Security technology provided by Apple and Google helps protect Oota from abuse. It confirms that requests come from the genuine app and is not used to identify you.
Oota uses product analytics to understand how its features are used and to improve its suggestions. This records only anonymous usage information, linked to your anonymous account — never your name, email, or other personal details.
4. Notifications
If you allow notifications, Oota sends dinner reminders to your device. To deliver them, we store your device’s notification token and use it only for that purpose.
Notifications are optional — you can turn them off at any time in the app or your device settings.
5. Third-Party Services
Oota relies on a few trusted services to run:
- Google Firebase — anonymous sign-in, sending notifications, protecting the app from abuse, and crash reporting.
- Amplitude — product analytics that helps us understand usage and improve the app.
- Apple and Google platform services — notification delivery and security checks on their devices.
- Our own secure servers — store your meals and groceries.
These providers process data on our behalf to run Oota. We don’t share your information with anyone for their own advertising or marketing.
6. Data Security
Your connection to Oota is encrypted (HTTPS), and your account credential is kept in your device’s secure storage. We take reasonable measures to protect your information, though no app or online service can be perfectly secure.
7. Your Choices
You’re in control of your data:
- View and edit your meals, groceries, and preferences anytime in the app.
- Delete everything from within the app (More → Manage data) — this clears your meals, history, groceries, and preferences.
- Turn notifications on or off whenever you like.
8. Children’s Privacy
Oota is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we don’t knowingly collect their information. Because Oota never asks who you are, it doesn’t build a personal profile of anyone.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date above, and we’ll flag anything significant.
We believe privacy should be simple. Oota is designed to help you decide what's for dinner — not to build a profile about you.
10. Contact Us
Questions about privacy? Email us at support@oota.day, or use “Send feedback” in the app. We’re happy to help.
